Teil 1: Basics of Forest Economics (Lecture), WS 2021/22, online, every Thursday from 10 to 11:30am CET (dates: October 14th, 21st, 28th, November 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th, December 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23th, January 13th, 20th, 27 th
Teil 2: Basics of Forest Economics (Exercise), WS 2021/22, online, every Thursday from 11:45 to 12:15am CET (dates: the same as Teil 1). In the communication with students it is possible to make agreement that exercises will be provided immediately after lectures (without planned 15 min coffee break).
In this module the following topics will be covered: Name, concept, subject and methods of forestry economics. Characteristics of forestry economics and its place in science.
Forest as a socio-economic category. Forest functions. Specificity of production process in forestry. Biological-technical characteristics and economic features. The ranking and importance of forestry. Characteristics of the forests in relation to ownership. The relationship between forestry and wood processing industry. Forest products trade. Share of forestry in gross domestic product. The basics of natural resources economy of, the basis of environmental pollution economic, the essential features of forestry (economic and market determinants).
Natural resources, the importance of forest resources and consumers. The basic market laws and their impact on the forest resources price formation. Supply and demand law. Manufacturing in forestry. Duration, activity and multifunctional character of production in forestry. Specificities of forestry planning process. Land as a resource, forest rent and forest tax.
Meaning of forest as capital. Interest account application.
Inhaltliche Beschreibung Teil 1: The lecture will cover one topic per week. The following topics will be covered in order:

8. Capital Budgeting Techniques
9. Capital Budgeting in Forestry
10. Economics of Forestry and Even-aged rotations 11. Optimal Timber stocking
12. Risk Analysis
13. Basics of marketing in forestry
14. The role of forestry in the bioeconomy
15. Investing in forestry via Stock Exchanges
Inhaltliche Beschreibung Teil 2 : In the tutorial, the topics covered in the lecture are deepened by means of exercises. |
