Voraussetzungen |
The course is designed for students who write texts in the English language for their studies, and for whom English is not the first language. The participants should be prepared to write a lot for the course, actively join discussions during the session and in the Moodle course, and try out different writing techniques. |

Inhalt |
This module aims at enabling students to approach academic writing from a process-oriented perspective. The emphasis of this course is on the writing process as well as on the specifics of writing academic / university texts in English as a second language. Aspects that are going to be a part of the course include: basic knowledge of writing process models/theory structuring and reflecting individual writing processes finding a suitable topic developing a research question/thesis finding and working with reading material / research literature developing strategies for reading and writing in English (as a second language) working with the Academic Phrase Bank and other useful resources common academic/university text genres and conventions Writing exercises and writing assignments are an integral part of the course. |
Lernziele |
The module aims at teaching the students different approaches for the writing of academic/ university texts in English. On the basis of writing process theories, students will try out different techniques and strategies that can help them to structure and reflect their individual writing processes. Moreover, they will learn how to purposefully use resources such as the Academic Phrase Bank. |
