Teil 1: PD Dr. Jan Bloemendal, Vorlesung Prosa/Poesie Griechisch/Latein Komparatistik: Das neulateinische und volkssprachige Bibeldrama zwischen Antike-Rezeption und Religion / Neo-Latin and Vernacular Biblical Drama Between the Reception of the Classics and Religion, WS 2022/23, HGB 20, Mittwoch 10.00 bis 12.00 Uhr, 2 CP Teil 2: Jan Echterling, Einführung in die Klassische Philologie, WS 2022/23, HGB 30, Mittwoch 12.00 bis 14.00 Uhr, 3 CP Inhaltliche Beschreibung Teil 1 (Vorlesung / lecture): In the early modern period, humanists and Jesuits wrote many Neo-Latin dramas: comedies, tragedies and tragicomedies. The forms, language and style often were form by those of the comedies by Plautus and Terence, or the tragedies by Seneca. Only occasional playwrights based on Greek comedies and tragedies. Early modern authors wrote many plays for their pupils and students, that they might read, learn and stage them, including many plays with subject from the Bible. Also in the vernacular, biblical plays were written. In this lecture we will give an outline of the genre, ask which were the motifs for the authors to write biblical plays and which possibilities they used to combine the classics and Christian belief. We will read some plays more closely – in Latin and in translation, to see how we can approach biblical drama, and also to see if they are suitable for the present-day classroom. |
