Inhalt |
Part 1: Lecture series “Sustainability in Sports”, SS 2023, online lectures with different sub-topics and different national and international guest speakers, duration 90 min each lecture, Monday, 4:15 pm – 5:45 pm Part 2: Seminar “Sports Nutrition and Sustainability – Experimental Lab and Self-Experience”, SS 2023, Wednesday, 8:15 am – 9:45 am and a compact time block (30.05.2023 – 03.06.2023, 09:00 – 17:00), Seminar Room will be announced Nowadays, “sustainability” is on everyone's lips. In 2015, all United Nations Member States adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, providing a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. How should the role of sport be seen in this context? Sport must rethink its own self-image in all its fields. Sport should be: resource-light, low-emission, nature-friendly, humane, and sustainable. Sport has many facets and aspects concerning the overriding topic of sustainability. Within the lecture series (part 1) we will address some of them, including Sustainable aspects of outdoor sports Sustainability in top level sports from the perspective of an elite athlete Sustainability and sportswear Sustainability and sports equipment Sustainability and major sports events Sustainability and sports nutrition Sustainability concepts in sports clubs in Germany Sustainability in the construction of outdoor sports facilities Energy production through sports Economical aspects of sustainability in sports Within the seminar and experiments (part 2) , we will specifically address sustainability within the context of sports nutrition. Athletes are often used as brand ambassadors in marketing campaigns due to their high popularity and power to promote consumer engagement. They can use their highly visibility to endorse healthy and environmentally friendly foods, including supplements. Recently on the market of food supplements, there has been focus drawn to products derived from “novel foods”, including insects. In particular there has been a growing prevalence of energy bars enriched with insect protein like cricket flour. Edible insects with their nutritional composition, especially their high protein content and all the essential amino acids, are a promising alternative protein source for the world's increasing population. Insects can contribute to sustainable food and nutritional security and be a part of the solution to protein shortages. Within the seminar, students will develop, conduct and evaluate their own research questions and experiments in the context of the use of edible insects as a strategy for sustainability in sports nutrition. At the end they will present their results during a public university conference. |
