Sitzung: 09.10.2024, 2-4 p.m. at Zoom Anmeldung: Formal registration takes place via enrolment in the Moodle course "uniWORKcity (WS 2024/2025)" and participation in the survey published there. In addition, a mandatory homework assignment will be set in the 1st session on 09.10.2024 . Only if this is handed in on time and in the correct form will the registration phase be considered successfully completed. If more students are interested in the seminar, a selection will be made by the project team after the first homework assignment has been submitted. The students will then be informed by e-mail about possible participation. The registration phase is open between 02.09.-06.10.2024. Zusammensetzung der Endnote für das Modul: 1. The seminar comprises 4 SWS and takes place in hybrid form. Active and regular participation in both parts of the seminar as well as thorough preparation and follow-up work are required. Furthermore, examinations and homework must be successfully completed and submitted. Please note: The 5 ECTS can currently only be acquired as part of the Optionalbereich at RUB. UWC participants from other universities must inquire about accreditation at their home institutions. |

Part 1: Labor market integration - strategy development, application skills, empowerment and practical elements (seminar) Part 2: Language skills - Business German (specialized language course) "uniWORKcity" (UWC) prepares international students in higher semesters of all Bochum universities in the UniverCity network for their local labor market integration during their studies. The modular project offers skills development in the fields of strategy development, job-related German, application training and empowerment elements as well as practical contacts for building a professional network. The weekly teaching units of both module parts are lecturer-based and take place in hybrid form. Part 1: Labor market integration - strategy development, application skills, empowerment and practice (seminar): In this part of the module, fundamental questions about the German labor market are answered from a cultural-historical and legal perspective. In addition, experts will provide information on the regional labor market and self-employment. At the same time, participants are supported in compiling their application documents. In addition to learning about different application channels and current application trends, students are taught how to market their own intercultural profile in the best possible way in order to enter the professional world with confidence. Thanks to intensive support in compiling their application documents, participants leave the seminar well equipped with compact and informative application documents. Part 2: Language competence - Business German (specialized language course ): In this part of the module, UWC participants are prepared for a job-related use of German. Linguistic and intercultural challenges are addressed throughout the course. German language skills of at least A2 level are required . A language competence of at least B2 is expected in English at the beginning of the course. Durch die intensive Betreuung bei der Zusammenstellung der Bewerbungsunterlagen, verlassen die Teilnehmenden das Seminar gut gerüstet mit kompakten und aussagekräftigen Bewerbungsunterlagen. Teil 2: Sprachkompetenz – Business German (Fachsprachenkurs): In diesem Modulteil werden die UWC-Teilnehmenden auf einen berufsbezogenen deutschen Sprachgebrauch vorbereitet. Sprachlich-interkulturelle Herausforderungen werden während des gesamten Kursverlaufs thematisiert . Eine Sprachkompetenz von B2 wird im Deutschen bereits zu Kursbeginn vorausgesetzt. |
Lernziele |
The objective is to support English-speaking refugee and international students of all disciplines in their advanced semesters on their way to a successful degree, to dispel d oubts they may have and to boost their self-confidence, as well as to prepare them for the German job market and its challenges during the study phase. Within the UniverCity network, UWC participants can build up a professional network beyond the boundaries of their own university. |
