Inhalt Part 1: Earth System Sciences - Fundamentals and Applications (Seminar) , Fr 10-12 Uhr, IA 6/151 Part 2: self-learning phase Part 3: Project presentation, date to be announced Earth system science is an interdisciplinary science that deals with the study of the ‘Earth system’. This interdisciplinary module provides a comprehensi ve introduction to Earth System Sciences, focusing on the integration of digital methods for analyzing and modeling complex environmental processes. Participants will explore fundamental principles and innovative applications of Earth System Sciences, leve raging (big) data-driven tools and computational techniques to address global challenges. Through case studies and practical exercises, the seminar emphasizes the use of digital technologies to understand and manage interactions within the Earth’s systems. The knowledge acquired in the course on the application of digital tools and computer-aided methods for analysing and modelling interactions within Earth systems is consolidated in the parallel self-study phase and applied in a pr actical project, thus enabling active competence acquisition. This self-learning process is supported by the provision of digital materials, tasks, case studies and cooperation projects, as well as regular individual or group discussions with the lecturer. We will work with different software packages in the practical sessions. In the field of remote sensing, we will use Snap software, and in the field of econometrics, we will use Vensim. The module concludes with a story map presentation of the independently developed practical projects.
Lernziele Students will… understand the fundamental principles of Earth System Sciences and their relevance to addressing global environmental challenges; develop proficiency in applying digital tools and computational methods to analyze and model interactions within Earth’s systems; gain interdisciplinary insights into the dynamics of the atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, anthroposphere, and geosphere, and their interconnected impacts; acquire practical skills in handling and interpreting large environmental datasets for scientific and policy-oriented applications; enhance problem-solving abilities through case studies and collaborative projects on real-world Earth system challenges.
